A King Cobra gang member was present during an incident at Auckland man Shannon Baker's house in the days before his death at his home in December, police say.
Mr Baker, 55, was killed in his home on Calgary Street, Sandringham, in the early hours of Tuesday, December 11. Police said in December, Mr Baker was likely killed over the contents of his safe at this house.
Police previously confirmed they are investigating two incidents which occurred at Mr Baker's Sandringham address over a period of days, prior to the father-of-two's death.
They say Mr Baker had been targeted and threatened by two men at his home on Sunday, December 2. At least one of whom returned to the address on Thursday, December 6.
At least one of the men present during the earlier incidents was a King Cobra gang member, Detective Inspector Aaron Pascoe said today.
"We believe robbery was the motivation for what occurred on the night of the 10th and the morning of the 11th," Detective Inspector Pascoe told media on January 25.
Police are also continuing their search for a light blue, late 1990s Toyota Camry sedan, believed to have a missing right rear hub cap, which was seen in the Sandringham area around the time of Mr Baker’s death.
The car is believed to be linked to his death.
Police are continuing to provide support for Mr Baker’s family, who have requested privacy.
A spokesperson for Mr Baker's family said they are all horrified at what has happened to him.
"His death has put all of our lives in limbo as we wait for answers on how and why this happened," the spokesperson said.
"We want to be able to move on with our lives without all of these unanswered questions."
