Hutt Hospital Childcare Centre's licence suspended as complaints investigated

February 4, 2019

The Ministry of Education has suspended the licence of Hutt Hospital Childcare Centre in Lower Hutt while it investigates complaints.

The ministry has appointed an independent investigator to look into the complaints, who began working with centre's management committee on January 7.

In a statement, a ministry spokesperson said "nothing is more important than the safety of children and we take all complaints seriously".

They went on to say "we have spoken with Oranga Tamariki about the complaints we received.

"The investigation will determine if any further action may be required."

The centre's licence has been suspended until February 28, by which time the ministry says it expects the investigation to be completed.

"Decisions about the centre’s future, including its licence status, will be made at the conclusion of the investigation," the spokesperson says.

Hutt Hospital Childcare Centre is situated on Hutt Hospital land, but is not owned, run by, or affiliated with Hutt Hospital.
