The Black Ferns Sevens are heading into their two-month break from the world series on a high after their big win in Sydney last night, but they won't use it as an excuse to ease up their training.
The Kiwi women's sevens side claimed their first Sydney Sevens title last night after beating hosts Australia 34-10 in the Cup Final, carrying on their stellar form from Hamilton the week before, when they won the Fast Four competition.
Veteran player Niall Williams says the Sydney title means a lot to the side.
"It was the only tournament in the whole world series that we haven't won," she said.
"We have a lot of family over here, too, and we wanted to show them how we knew we could play."
The win continues the Black Ferns Sevens' perfect start to the new season after winning the Glendale and Dubai legs as well at the end of 2018.
The team now has a two-month break before the next leg of the series - Kitakyushu in Japan starting on April 20.
Despite the large window, Williams says the team won't ease up.
"We've just got to stay in the grind," she says.
"We'll have a bit of time to go back, get our bodies right, have some family time, a bit of time off and just being away from that mental preparation of having to prepare for a tournament.
"We've got to stay in the grind and keep up the work, but enjoy the break, too."
