With the Super Rugby season set to start next month, the Crusaders will be the team to beat as they eye up a three-peat.

The Canterbury franchise were back to full training today but without their All Blacks stars.

Coach Scott Robertson said he’s excited about unleashing 19-year-old Leicester Fainga’anuku in this weekend’s pre-season match against the Hurricanes in Levin.

"Leicester's like a running back in the NFL, he's got the set up with the old dreads and he's a great character, 19 turning 20, he's got power and going to be a really good player," said Robertson.

"Good professional and excited to have him in."

Fainga'anuku was part of the New Zealand under 20's team in 2018.

With it being a Rugby World Cup year Robertson confirmed yesterday that the All Blacks skipper Kieran Read and lock Sam Whitelock will miss the first four weeks of competition.
