Emiliano Sala's teammates scared of flying after footballer's plane went missing

Teammates of missing footballer Emiliano Sala have developed a fear of flying after the Argentinian went missing while on board a light aircraft last week.

Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba told BBC Sport Wales players are struggling with the situation after Sala went missing while flying over the English Channel on January 21.

"It is very difficult to even describe how the players are feeling," Bamba said. "It is a very unusual situation, a big tragedy.

"We have all been affected by it, the lads, the city, the whole club."

Sala was travelling from Nantes in western France with pilot David Ibbotson to make his debut for Cardiff City when the plane disappeared from radar over the Channel Islands.

An official search for the pair was called off last week.

Bamba said the experience has now given some Cardiff City players a fear of flying.

"We have had some help," he said. "We travel by plane and some of the lads have been thinking, 'I don't want to go on it any more.'

"It was that deep, the gaffer [Cardiff manager Neil Warnock] has been good and the club have been good in terms of bringing someone in to talk to if we need to.

"And I think some of the lads do, they need to get it out. So I think it was good thinking from the club and the gaffer and hopefully in the weeks to come we are going to feel better."

A private underwater search is being planned for this weekend after debris was discovered on the French Coast overnight.
