Low clouds halted all Air New Zealand flights at Wellington Airport this morning, with the delays predicted to stay in place until this afternoon.
The fog has prevented several ministers from being able to attend the first Cabinet meeting of the year, RNZ reported.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said many ministers were not able to make it to Wellington in time for the start of their meeting at 11am.
"We actually are expecting all ministers here today bar one, so this demonstrates to you, I guess, the impact the weather's had on us today," she said.
Fog is expected to clear by midday, but many flights have been cancelled or delayed, Wellington Airport tweeted.
Air New Zealand couldn't say how many customers had been affected.
Travellers have been advised to check with individual airlines or at wellingtonairport.co.nz.
