Breakfast host Hayley Holt told viewers this morning she is not leaving the show, after a scam website claimed she had started up a beauty product company.
Legal action has been started after people contacted the TVNZ1 show saying they had lost money in multiple transactions on the fake site, which claimed she was leaving Breakfast to start up an argan oil-based beauty product company.
"Apparently the scam says I use a product called argan oil," she said. "The site then offers the chance to buy a sample of the product.
"But we've had a few of you get in touch to say you have been overcharged or charged multiple times, so we've started legal action to get these stories removed."
Co-host Jack Tame reiterated that the show does not endorse things where people are asked to pay money.
"Maybe as a general rule, if you see anything online, anything on Facebook from a member of the Breakfast team telling you to buy something, don't buy it," he said.
It's not the first time a member of the Breakfast team has been targeted by scammers on a false news website.
Last month, news reader Daniel Faitaua spoke out over a fraudulent website that claimed he had invested in Bitcoin live on-air. The website also used images and fake quotes from Holt.
