One dead, four injured in multi-car crash on Auckland's Southern motorway

One person has died after a serious crash on Auckland's Southern motorway near Takanini, police say.

Emergency services were called to the scene on State Highway 1 at about 10pm last night.

Two other people are in a serious condition and two are in a minor to moderate condition after the crash which involved four vehicles.

The Serious Crash Unit has been examining the scene. 

All north and southbound lanes are now open.
