Man fails to surface while swimming at Whangārei Falls, search suspended

A man has failed to surface while swimming at Whangārei Falls in Northland.

In a statement police say "a man went under while swimming and has failed to surface".

The search for the swimmer that commenced earlier today has been suspended for the evening.

The swimmer has not been located.

Police say the Falls will be closed until the search operation is complete.

Scene guards will be in place overnight.
