Three people saved after boat capsizes off Wairarapa Coast

A water rescue has been carried out off the Wairarapa Coast after a boat with three people onboard capsized this morning.

The incident occurred off Cape Palliser shortly before 10am, a Police spokesperson told 1 NEWS.

It is understood members of the public responded first, recovering one person from the water, and the other two from underneath the boat.  

Surf Lifesaving and a helicopter was requested to assist.

A police spokesperson confirmed to 1 NEWS all three have since been rescued and are now back on shore.
