The man who went missing at a Gisborne beach last night has been located safe and well.
Police began a search for the man late Wednesday evening after he was seen entering the water at Kaiti Beach at 10:30 that night. The search was resumed again yesterday before the man himself contacted police last evening.
Police say the man went for a swim on Wednesday and was out swimming for over an hour and a half before coming back to shore and didn’t get back home until after 11:30pm.
He saw a helicopter fly overhead that evening but didn’t realise it was looking for him.
The man then heard about the search effort last night and contacted police, who are satisfied the man is the person they were looking for.
