Emergency services extinguish vegetation fires along highway in Mackenzie District

Two helicopters and eight fire crews have extinguished multiple vegetation fires along a state highway in Mackenzie District.

State Highway 8 near Pukaki had been closed but is now being re-opened.

The grass fires were set off when a truck caught fire east of the intersection of SH8 and SH80, the main road to Mt Cook.

Motorists have been asked to avoid the area if possible.
