Auckland Police's Eagle helicopter will move to a new base next year - going from its current location in Mechanics Bay to Onehunga.
A new contractor has been chosen to supply the service for the Air Support Unit, police confirmed, after a tender process that began in early 2018.
The new base in Onehunga will be the Auckland Heliport.
The new supplier is tentatively marked down to start operational services from there on July 1 next year.
As part of the contract, police will be equipped with three Bell 429 helicopters.
Acting District Commander for Auckland City Police Jim Wilson said police are trying to make the transition to a new supplier as seamless as possible.
"The relocation to Onehunga will see our Air Support Unit continue to be based in Auckland City District and there will not be a significant impact to response times to jobs around Tamaki Makaurau and further afield," he said.
Some have this year labelled the Eagle helicopter as a nuisance due to its loud noise level.
The NZ Herald reported in August that local board member Troy Churton had made 169 complaints in about eight months about the helicopter flying over his home in Remuera on its way to jobs in South Auckland.
He claimed 75 per cent of the Eagle's jobs were in South Auckland.
