One person has died after a car crashed into a power pole in Auckland, one of two fatal crashes overnight.
Emergency services were called to Godley Road, in Green Bay, West Auckland at 12.17am.
A power outage is affecting the area, and Vector expects the issue to be resolved by 10.30am.
Two fire crews are working with the power company due to the difficulty of extracting the pole from the vehicle.
Another person is now in stable condition after they were trapped and transported to hospital in a critical condition, a St John spokesperson told 1 NEWS.
Godley Road is expected to reopen shortly with traffic management in place, police say.
The second crash was near Nelson, with one person losing their life.
Three more people were hospitalised.
