Police investigating after suspicious fire causes extensive damage to Bay of Plenty police station

December 19, 2018

Police and Fire and Emergency NZ are investigating following a suspicious fire at a Bay of Plenty police station last night.

The building was burning when emergency services arrived on the scene at Taneatua Police Station at around 10.45pm.

The damage is extensive and a scene examination will continue today, police said.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Standen said, "The sole-charge Police officer who lives next to the station was not in any danger from the fire, but is naturally devastated that this could happen in his town".

Police are currently considering options to relocate the sole officer in the short term as the police continue to ensure the safety of the local community.

Anyone with information that may assist police in their investigation has been urged to call police on 07 308 5255, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
