A road worker has been critically injured in a crash that has closed Wadestown Road in Wellington.
Police say two cars crashed and then a road worker at the scene was hit by one of the cars, shortly after 2.15pm.
The road worker has been taken to hospital with critical injuries and the driver of one of the vehicles has also been taken to hospital.
Wellington is closed between Lytton Street and Blackbridge and is expected to be closed for some time while police investigate the circumstances of the crash.
Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
