Police name man who died after being dropped off at Christchurch Hospital, sparking homicide probe

Police have named a man who was dropped off injured at Christchurch Hospital on Saturday night and died, sparking a homicide investigation.

He was 25-year-old Shayne George Heappey, of Christchurch.

A homicide investigation was launched after Mr Heappey, who was admitted to Christchurch Hospital about 11pm on Saturday, died of his injuries that night.

Police and forensic specialists have today conducted an examination of a vehicle that is believed to have dropped Mr Heappey off at the hospital on Saturday night, Detective Inspector Corrie Parnell said. 

A post mortem examination will be carried out tomorrow, he said.

Police and Victim Support are working closely with the family of Mr Heappey at this difficult time, Mr Parnell said.
