Watch: Ref floored by brutal headkick after attempting to step in and stop Muay Thai fight

November 27, 2018

A Muay Thai fighter managed to collect two scalps in one fight after he accidentally floored the referee in charge of his bout with a deadly headkick.

Chinese star Gou Dakui was looking to finish Thai opponent Super X Sitsontidech in their MAX Muay Thai clash after stunning him with a combo.

Dakui lined up a head kick but the referee had already seen enough to end the fight and opted to step in and stop it - a decision that proved fairly costly as he instead took the kick in Sitsontidech's place.

Both Sitsontidech and the ref dropped to the floor leaving Dakui confused for a short time before another official stepped into the ring and waved an end to the fight while the original ref was left clutching at his nose.

Dakui entered Saturday's fight in Bangkok as a firm favourite but had to recover from a slow start after he hit the canvas in the first round.

But the 25-year-old found his momentum and put Sitsontidech on the back foot until he delivered the final combo in the second round with just over a minute left.

Dakui moved his career record to 21-9 with the win.
