A needle has been found in a capsicum which was bought in a Tauranga Countdown over the weekend.
A spokesperson for Countdown told 1 NEWS a customer contacted them about finding a needle in a capsicum and the matter was now with police and the Ministry for Primary Industries.
According to Stuff, Will Taylor cooked a red capsicum purchased from Countdown Bureta Park last night when the needle was discovered by his girlfriend upon eating.
"She bit into it and it scratched the side of her tongue.
"Thankfully it hasn't done any serious damage or had any effects from it," Mr Taylor said.
The couple then found the needle in the capsicum.
"It was about an inch and a half long," Mr Taylor said. "I've still got it in case police or MPI need to look at it."
The latest needle scare comes after a needle was found in a strawberry inside a punnet purchased at a South Canterbury supermarket on Saturday morning.
A police spokesperson said the fruit was purchased at a supermarket in Geraldine and they are investigating the matter.
