Man charged with murder of woman after incident near Rotorua

A man has appeared in Rotorua District Court today charged with the murder of a woman south of the town.

Police say they were called to a family harm incident on Whirinaki Valley Road in Ngakuru at 7.15am today.

Officers have opened a homicide inquiry after the death of a 50-year-old woman.

A 57-year-old man was arrested and has appeared in court.

Police say a scene examination is underway.
