The stories of children in the Family Court are being highlighted as part of a push for a Royal Commission of inquiry into the system.

Justice Minister Andrew Little continues to resist calls for such an inquiry - despite the United Nations recommending it and the heart-breaking tales from those involved.

Instead, the Government is holding a review of its own.

"I want to get a very clear picture about what it is that the Family Court is doing wrong, and for that matter, what they are doing well, but most importantly what needs to change," Mr Little says.

Critics say there are long term systemic problems that need long term solutions, not a piecemeal approach.

"Having an independent person who works just for the children and young person would be a really good idea," campaigner Deborah McKenzie says.

Around 2000 people have signed a petition calling for a Royal Commission that will be presented to Parliament tomorrow.
