Emergency services have been responding to callouts of flash flooding across Auckland as wet and wild weather hits the city.
MetService say there have been reports of downpours with thunder and hail causing surface flooding about Westmere and Grey Lynn in Auckland.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand has responded to three callouts.
There is also more rain forecast for the working week ahead, with a heavy rain warning in place for Wairarapa, the Tararua District and parts of Marlborough.
MetService forecaster Cameron Coutts says these warnings will extend well into tomorrow.
“We are also watching remaining eastern parts of the South Island closely,” said Mr Coutts.
Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous, MetService warns.
Western areas of the South Island and southwest of the North Island escape with generally fine weather.
"It is looking warm for the sheltered West Coast of the South Island, with temperatures there heading into the twenties right through the week," says Mr Coutts.
