British gymnast earns place in Guinness World Records for longest backflip

A Brittish gymnast has set a Guinness World Record by hurling himself 5.87m between two horizontal bars.

Ashley Watson, 26, set the feat at Leeds Gymnastics Club, with two independent witnesses present and a chartered surveyor measuring the distance, reports BBC.

Watson has been in the Great Britain squad since he was 15 years old.

"Surprised no-one had tried it before."

Since posting the video to Facebook, it's received over a thousand views and hundreds of comments, in awe of Watson's feat.

Other Facebook users, familiar with the daring gymnast and club simply posted "classic Leeds".
