As Christmas approaches and the kids make their wishlists, a new furry pet could be on the cards this Christmas.

But rather than a pure-bred lab - could your family make room for Megan the mastiff cross or Bo the burly mutt?

The Warehouse is putting some shelter dogs from the SPCA front and centre in their newest campaign in the hopes of finding them new homes just in time for the silly season.

The Warehouse's Krystal Spicer said, "We thought we’d take the opportunity to shed some light on animal shelters and dog adoption".

Auckland Shelters' Chardon Daley added, "What you'll find with shelter dogs is because they haven't had the best start in their lives, they're going to be more appreciative and more loyal and they're going to be good pets".

"We feel that they're still here because they're not what people are looking for. We do find that people are looking for the cute, fluffy shih tzus, labradors, retrievers, pure-bred dogs that you're just not going to find in a shelter but they're still amazing dogs that deserve a second chance."

To give them a helping paw, the pups were adorned with Christmas-themed accessories from The Warehouse.

For every dog adopted in the campaign, The Warehouse will donate a month's supply of dog food and a starter pack which will include a bed, treats and toys.
