For second time, Christchurch police raid home - again finding stash of looted antiques

November 22, 2018

Christchurch police have raided the same Hillsborough property for the second time in months, again finding a stash of pilfered antiques

The latest search, which took place yesterday, has resulted in six burglary charges for a 29-year-old man who now remains in custody. The man, who police have not named, is expected to appear in court in three weeks.

In August, a search of the same property revealed stolen antiques valued at $100,000.

At least one of the victims is elderly and was very grateful to see the items returned, Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Joel Syme said today as he offered simple tips for protecting belongings.

"Keep your doors locked, even when you’re at home, keep your spare key in a safe place and consider installing an alarm or sensor lights," he suggested.
