It wasn’t a question about his goalkicking or the All Blacks loss to Ireland that got Beauden Barrett flustered at the press conference in Rome yesterday. In fact, it wasn’t even a question for him.
He was more than a little red-faced when his brother Scott was asked what he had got for his 25 th birthday.
"I dunno," a smiling Scott said before Beauden interjected.
"We’ve been flat our Nige," the elder Barrett said in an apparent excuse for not having got his younger, but bigger, brother anything.
Asked if he had some last-minute shopping to do, a chuckling Barrett said, "yeah, that’s the plan".
Scott wasn’t too sure if there were even allowances in All Blacks camp for a cake.
"Kat’s (Kat Darry, All Blacks nutritionist) pretty good like that, she usually sneaks one in," Beauden said.
