Police in the US have arrested the brother of a New York City tech company chief executive who was found dead at his New Jersey mansion yesterday along with his wife and two children.
Paul Caneiro was charged overnight with arson involving his own home, located about 16 kilometres from his brother's home, while his own family was inside. Firefighters first responded to Caneiro's Ocean Township home yesterday before being called to the grisly scene of his brother's mansion, which was also ablaze.
Authorities found Square One CEO Keith Caneiro, 50, dead on his front lawn with a gunshot wound that did not appear to be self-inflicted, the New York Daily News reports. The other bodies were found inside, severely burned.
His wife and young children appeared to have been stabbed, a local NBC news affiliate has reported, citing law enforcement sources.
The mansion fire is also being investigated as arson, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni told reporters.
The brothers were also business partners, with Paul Caneiro listed as the Square One's vice president.
Keith Caneiro and his family lived in Colts Neck, and upscale community near the New Jersey shore.
The community of about 10,000 residents, about 80 kilometres south of New York City, is home to horse farms and homes valued at about $1.1 million NZD. Bruce Springsteen owns an estate there, and his son is a former member of the fire department. Former Daily Show host Jon Stewart and his wife operate an animal sanctuary there; Queen Latifah sold her mansion there in 2015.
