November 19, 2018

Police have named the teenager missing after being swept off rocks near Raglan on Saturday while fishing with family members.

An extensive search has been underway for 17-year-old Jack Macnicol from Te Awamutu, since he was swept off the rocks at around 1.30pm on Saturday.

Police Search and Rescue teams have been searching near Raglan again today in a land-based search focused on the shoreline around Papanui Point.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Police Eagle helicopter, Coastguard Air Patrol, Raglan Coastguard and the Raglan Surf Club provided assistance to Police Search and Rescue teams.

"We are extremely grateful to all those who have assisted our Search and Rescue teams - especially the volunteers, and family and friends of Jack, who have been helping in the search," Sergeant Vince Ranger said in a statement this afternoon.

The search will be assessed on a daily basis going forward, depending on weather and tidal conditions, he said.
