All Blacks locking duo Brodie Retallick and Sam Whitelock discussed their on-field relationship, with the pair to become New Zealand's all-time most capped second row combination against Ireland this weekend.
Widely regarded as one of the best locking combinations of all time, Retallick and Whitelock will notch their 50th Test together in Dublin this weekend, asked if their partnership was more like a 'marriage' in front of gathered media this morning.
"Who's the male, who's the female," Whitelock questioned.
"I guess it is," Retallick replied.
"We've been working closely for a number of years now, I guess you get to know each other pretty well."
The duo will surpass Ian Jones and Robin Brooke as the All Blacks' all-time leading locks, although Whitelock says he was unaware of the milestone until he was told against England last week.
"We got told last week [that] it was our 49th, and we were equalling the previous record. I didn't have a clue besides that."
"It's pretty cool now that we can look back and look at it, but at the end of the day it doesn't mean anything if we don't perform.
"When Brodie and I are a little bit older and not playing rugby anymore we'll probably catch up at some stage and talk about how cool it was, but at the moment we're pretty focused on this week."
