If he turns out anything like his famous father, it won't be long before teenage star Niko Jones is knocking at the door of the All Blacks.
Jones, 17, has taken his first major step towards emulating dad Michael by being awarded a New Zealand Sevens contract today.
It is another progression for the young No. 8, one of the brightest talents in the game who has turned heads throughout his St Peters College playing tenure.
He led the unfancied Auckland team to the national first XV schools crown earlier this year, displaying athleticism and skill that was the trademark of his father in the black jersey.

Michael Jones, who played 55 times for the All Blacks, is regarded as one of rugby's greatest openside flankers. The first try-scorer at the inaugural 1987 World Cup, he served his country for 13 years and was ever-present during the domestic dominance of Auckland and the Blues in the 1980s and 90s.
Niko is in hot demand among Kiwi franchises and is reportedly considering a shift to Christchurch, home to the champion Canterbury and Crusaders.
