Interim New Zealand Football boss Andrew Pragnell believes this morning's face-to-face apology to Football Ferns players is the first step in rebuilding trust with the team.
NZF officials met with players today as they prepare for World Cup qualifiers to apologise for the recent off-field dramas with former manager Andreas Heraf.
"It was to make sure, basically, that the same things don't happen again," he said.
"I thought it went well. There were a lot of thank yous. I felt there was a lot of authenticity."
Pragnell said there's still plenty to do though.
"I think trust is built over time so I think it was a significant milestone - I don't think it was the only one.
"We need to show a commitment to keep getting better and better so it was definitely a leap forward but there's a few more to go."
The Football Ferns are in camp preparing for the OFC Women’s Nations Cup, together for the first time since the 4-1 defeat to Japan in Wellington in June - when Heraf was in charge.
The team’s first World Cup qualifying fixture is against Tonga on November 19.
