Man facing charges over fire started by shooting fireworks from car

Christchurch police have laid a charge against a man who they say intentionally shot fireworks out of a car, causing a fire.

The fire started on Newtons Road in Rolleston on Saturday night.

Two vehicles were seen driving along with the occupants shooting fireworks at each other.

A firework went into a hedge where it started a fire which quickly spread and threatened properties.

A ride-on lawnmower near one of the hedges was destroyed.

The man was charged with intentionally damage and will appear at Christchurch District Court on November 13.
