Pop culture icon Mickey Mouse is celebrating his 90th year since first appearing on screen in 1928, and to celebrate Disney has chosen a select number of designers, asking them to showcase their talents with a collection honouring the famous character.

Among those chosen is luxury Italian fashion house Gucci, American designer Marc Jacobs - and New Zealand’s very own Karen Walker.

As the only Australasian designer to be asked, Karen Walker told 1 NEWS "it was an immediate an unequivocal yes".

"Mickey is a true icon and it's a great honour for me to have an opportunity to interpret his personality, which I've always loved, through my own lens."

The label has released a 28-piece collection celebrating the personality of Mickey Mouse with eyewear, t-shirts, sweatshirts, jewellery and kitchenware designs.

The collection is now available in Karen Walker stores across New Zealand.
