A small town in northern France is today celebrating its 100-year connection to New Zealand.

Kiwi soldiers played a vital part in liberating the town of Le Quesnoy during World War 1 and a large New Zealand contingent has travelled there to help mark the occasion.

1 NEWS' Europe correspondent Joy Reid was there for the commemorations.
