'I've been dreaming for this' - George Bridge beams after heroic All Blacks debut

November 4, 2018

All Blacks debutant George Bridge was blown away at his first outing in the black jersey, scoring twice in last night's 69-31 win over Japan in Tokyo.

Bridge, 23, came on as a half-time substitute, scoring with his very first touch of the ball as an All Black, capping off a lethal move for his first Test points, before grabbing a second later on.

Speaking to media after the match, Bridge couldn't hide his delight at becoming an All Black, after years of promise with Canterbury and the Crusaders.

"I've been dreaming for this moment pretty much since day dot," he said.

"To be able to run out there in the black jersey tonight is pretty unreal.

"A few of us got the opportunity to run out there tonight, and I think we did the black jersey proud.

"The coaches said there was a good opportunity and that was all we could do, and we did that well tonight."

Speaking about the match itself, Bridge said that the physicality and pace of Test rugby showed that he still had a long way to go.

"I only played 40 minutes and I was buggered, the intensity was right up there, but it was good fun. I enjoyed it."
