Steve Hansen has hinted at seeing more of Damian McKenzie at fullback for the All Blacks, following his impressive display in his side's 37-20 win over Australia in Yokohama.

After an extended spell as the All Blacks' first-choice fullback in 2017, McKenzie has played most of his rugby this year in the number 10 jersey.

However, McKenzie, 23, lined up in the number 15 against the Wallabies in Japan, preferred to play out of position over his more established colleagues Jordie Barrett and Ben Smith.

Speaking to media in his post match press conference, Hansen said that he and assistant coach Ian Foster were more than happy with McKenzie's outing.

"He's a quality player," Hansen said.

"Both Foz (Foster) and I were really happy with the options he gave us... he allowed to take a bit of pressure off Beauden (Barrett).

"To have first receivers, two drivers on the park at the same time is good for us, and something that we'll continue to do going forward."
