Several seriously injured as crash blocks SH3 on North Island's west coast

Five people are believed to be seriously injured in a crash which has blocked State Highway 3 at Mokau, on the west coast north of New Plymouth. 

Police say emergency services are working at the scene near Ye Old Mill Road and North St.

Initial indications are five people may be seriously injured, police say in a statement.

The road is currently completely blocked and there are no diversions in place.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.

Police say a helicopter and tow truck are on their way to the scene.
