Calls for a nationwide petrol boycott to protest high prices are gaining traction after the suggestion was posted to Facebook.
Nearly 10,000 people have indicated they will be joining the New Zealand Nationwide Petrol Strike event that is scheduled to take place from midnight October 26 until midday October 27.

Those taking part are told to not to enter a petrol station on those dates.
Reasons behind organising the boycott are given on the page created by Julia Roche and Donicia Cameron.
"These increases (petrol) are affecting all of us, for some the impact is immediate for others longer term.
"The government and the big petrol companies both have the power to do something about this.
"This event is about standing united against these unjustified increases," part of the event description reads.
The proposed boycott comes as the Government-imposed hike recently pushed petrol prices up by four cents a litre nationwide.
