Kiwis veteran hooker Issac Luke has announced today via social media that he has signed a one-year deal with the Warriors.

The 31-year-old was close to signing with the Newcastle Knights for next season, but after news came to light that Luke needed shoulder surgery and would be side-lined until March, the deal broke down.

"I have re-signed with the club for one more year and hopefully get another couple years out with them," Luke tweeted.

"Thanks for the support this year. My time isn't done yet, looking forward to seeing you all next year."

The livewire hooker has played more than 250 NRL games and played a key role this season in guiding the Warriors to their first play-off finals since 2011.

Luke said he is pleased to have the contract signed and is happy to stay put in New Zealand.

"It's good to have the contract all sorted out," said Luke.

"We always wanted to stay in New Zealand, my wife and the kids. I'm really happy here at the club and I'm pleased I have another season with the boys."

Warriors coach Stephen Kearney said he is glad that Luke has been signed for the 2019 NRL season with the New Zealand club.

"We wanted Issac to stay. It was just a matter of sorting out the details," said Kearney.

"Now we look forward to him making a big contribution to the side next season."

Luke played 23 NRL games for the Warriors this season, scoring six tries and averaged 71 playing minutes, 72 metres and 31 tackles per game.
