Eddie Jones, England 'not on the same planet' says British rugby's loudest voice

England coach Eddie Jones' recent struggles have been added to, with one of British rugby's biggest critics coming out in condemnation of the under fire boss.

After a rosy start to life in charge of the England side, Australian Jones has struggled in 2018, losing six of nine Tests, seeing them finish fifth in the Six Nations, before a 2-1 series defeat away to South Africa.

Writing for the Sunday Times, Stephen Jones spoke of the disastrous circumstances around the England side, now less than a year out from the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, saying that the lack of locals throughout the coaching staff was a worrying sign.

"You feel Jones and his adopted country are not on the same planet, or wavelength," Jones writes.

"He rarely seems to find England philosophies or coaches an attractive proposition.

"It is starting to frighten me. Suddenly, we find ourselves looking at the improvement in Argentina and France, England's pool rivals in the World Cup a year hence. Earth to Eddie: stop scaring us."

Stephen Jones also had strong words for his namesake Eddie's promises to deliver a world class side, having taken over after the disastrous 2015 World Cup, where England became the first side in history to fail to get out of the group in a tournament that they were the hosts of.

"Jones declared some years ago that he wanted to develop a crew of players of true world-class.

"That core has refused to emerge.

"We should by now be seeing a fulfillment of the Jones promise to revive England as a powerhouse forward force. But we wait in vain for a dominant attacking tighthead prop."

England are next in action against South Africa at Twickenham in November, before a much anticipated showdown with the All Blacks at the same venue on November 11 NZT.
