Gabrielle Badger thought putting some colour in her hair before going to youth camp would be amusing.
"It was just a bit of fun really," she says.
Until it wasn't fun. She had never put colour in her hair before and when it wouldn’t completely wash out seven weeks later, she started to worry.
"So I would do two or three washes in each shower so I was washing it quite a lot because I wanted it to come out. Still didn't come out."
Gabrielle used L'Oréal Paris Colorista Washout hair colour. She selected Turquoise for her blonde hair. It's advertised to last about five to 15 washes. She wouldn't normally panic about some green in her hair but she's on a deadline.
"I'm getting married on November 24th.
"It's also just embarrassing having green hair on your big day," she says as she looks over wedding plans.
L'Oréal Paris say Gabrielle's problem was she went to get her hair fixed at a non-L’Oreal affiliated hair salon and the colour stripper they used may have driven in the colour.
"As with all hair colour products, the end-result will vary from individual to individual based on different factors, including application techniques, hair condition and hair colour history," they said.
The L'Oréal Paris Colorista Washout packaging clearly states that this product is recommended for brunettes. It also states that, if you’re blonde, the Turquoise shade used by Gabrielle "might come out really intense and last longer than expected."
Gabrielle is one of many people in New Zealand and around the world who are struggling to wash out L'Oréal Paris Colorista Washout hair colour. L'Oréal Paris say if you are unsure please ring their helpline on 0800 655 444.
