The decision to resign from her Ministerial portfolios has been a "tough one" for Clare Curran, the Prime Minister told media today.

It was announced today that Dunedin South MP and former Broadcasting Minister Clare Curran resigned from her remaining Ministerial portfolios.

Jacinda Ardern said today Ms Curran contacted her last night "to advise me that she wanted to resign from her portfolios".

"We talked it through and I accepted her resignation."

"She's made a decision on behalf of herself but also on behalf of the Government but it's been a tough one for her nonetheless."

Ms Curran was stripped from her roles as Government Digital Services and Open Government responsibilities last month, after failing to disclose a meeting for a second time.

Former 1 NEWS journalist Kris Faafoi named Broadcasting Minister after Clare Curran resigns

She was also rattled in Parliament on Wednesday when asked about the use of her personal email for Government business, appearing flustered in offering a rambling and incoherent response to a question from National's Melissa Lee.

Ms Ardern said there was a "huge amount" of pressure placed on Ms Curran, and said the MP acknowledged she did not meet high expectations in the House this week.

"She has now decided that her position as a minister is untenable for her and has made that decision."
