Winston Peters cracked a joke in Parliament today after Paula Bennett accused him of "treating the media and public like they're stupid".
Mr Peters was answering on behalf of the Prime Minister during Question Time today, when Ms Bennett made the accusation.
"Does she think it's helpful that her Minister of Foreign Affairs treats the media and the public like they're stupid?" Ms Bennett asked.
"On behalf of the Prime Minister I know full well the admiration that the Minister of Foreign Affairs has for the media," Mr Peters responded, to laughter from the House.
"Particularly some of them, and he has made no conceit or deceit about that he's always said they can perform far better if they're given the resources to do their job properly," he finished off.
The Deputy Prime Minister also defended beleaguered Labour Minister Clare Curran after she fluffed her lines in Question Time yesterday.
