Canterbury have brushed off a shaky first half to overcome Manawatū in their round four Mitre 10 Cup clash tonight in Christchurch.
The defending champions trailed 13-12 at halftime after the Turbos came out firing with their forward pack in the first 40 minutes, putting pressure on the Canterbury defence to make first-up tackles for long passages of play.
However, Canterbury found their groove in the second half and took full control of the match after a stunning solo try by first-five Brett Cameron.
Cameron took the ball on halfway and sold a dummy to slice through the Turbos' line into the back field.
After fending off a tackle attempt from Rob Thompson, Cameron sprinted away to score near the posts and push Canterbury's newfound lead to 27-16.
Despite a late comeback attempt from Manawatū, they couldn't execute their set piece when it mattered most and lost the game 34-23.
With the win, Canterbury take their third-straight win of the season while the Turbos earn the complete opposite in their third-straight loss.
