National leader Simon Bridges launched into a dramatic speech today criticising the Prime Minister for the handling of MP Clare Curran's removal from Cabinet.
The House went into urgent debate today over Ms Curran, with Mr Bridges calling recent events "symbolic of a torrid and incompetent, a shambolic few days", after fellow Labour MP Meka Whaitiri stood down amid a staffing investigation.
The move comes following Ms Curran’s failure to declare a second meeting. (Source: Other)
Ms Curran was demoted from Cabinet last month for failing to disclose a meeting. Ms Ardern removed her Cabinet and accepted her offer to resign from the Government Digital Services portfolio and Open Government responsibilities.
"We have seen some of the weakest leadership this Parliament has ever seen occur under Jacinda Ardern," Mr Bridges told Parliament.
"I know what Helen Clark and I know what John Key would have done on that, and on the incompetence that we are seeing from the likes of many, many Ministers."
Mr Bridges said the time it took for Ms Curran's meeting to be disclosed was either "intentional or a special kind of stupid".
He said it was the "kind of Government and secrecy Hillary Clinton would be proud of".
The week was not all smooth sailing for Mr Bridges who launched an internal inquiry last week over his leaked expenses, with National MPs forced to hand over communications dating back to the start of February.
Mr Bridges said if the leaker is not a National MP or staffer, they may not be found. (Source: Other)
