A man suspected of attacking a French student outside a cafe last month has been arrested after leaving a psychiatric hospital in France.
Police have detained the man on suspicion for assaulting Marie Laguerre, a 22-year-old student.
Ms Laguerre released a video of the attack that went viral online.
The video contained survelliance footage of the man hurling an ashtray towards her outside a cafe in Paris, after she allegedly told him to "shut up" for making lewd comments. The man then walks towards Ms Laguerre and strikes her in the face.
The suspect was detained yesterday on suspicion of assault and sexual harassment as he was leaving a psychiatric hospital, police said.
Ms Laguerre would be asked to formally identify if she believed he was the man who attacked her.
She has since clarified what happened on the day. The man was using "dirty language, in a humiliating and provocative manner," she said on a Facebook post.
"I told him to shut up and kept walking away, because I can’t stand this kind of behaviour. I can’t keep quiet, and we mustn’t keep quiet any longer."
The assault happened "in the middle of the street and in broad daylight, in front of dozens of witnesses," she said.
Ms Laguerre has since set up a website called Nous Toutes Harcelement, meaning “we are all harassed,” to collect similar stories of harassment.
The French government this month passed a new law against sexist violence, making catcalling in the street a crime that can be punished by fines.
