A New Zealand man who was held in a Bali prison, accused of attempted murder has been released and has returned to his home in Perth.
Matthew Arai, aka Matty Isiah, left a Kuta nightclub on August 12 and accidentally struck a scooter driver while trying to hail a taxi with his arm.
He was mobbed by locals because they thought he had deliberately hit the rider, and was arrested for attempted murder.
Mr Arai has been released without charge after 12 days in a one-metre cell and is back home in Western Australia, NZ Herald is reporting, citing Ngaarda Media.
"I am home back in Australia safe & sound. To my lawyer, Max, thank you for keeping your promise," he is quoted as saying.
"To my amazing family that never gave up hope or left me behind, Mum, Dad, babe and our son, my gratitude I can not express enough."
Kuta Police reportedly requested $US7000 (NZ$10,465) for Mr Arai's release at the time of his arrest.
