An Australian journalist who called the Warriors a "dud club" at the start of this season has swallowed his pride and apologised to fans of the Kiwi club, saying he's been proven wrong.
Dean Ritchie wrote earlier this year that the Warriors "accepted failure and mediocrity since 1995" and would "crash and burn" again this year while failing to make the finals.
With their 36-16 win over the Panthers last Friday, the Warriors proved that opinion wrong and booked their first NRL playoffs appearance since 2011.
The result has prompted a response from Ritchie, who opened his opinion piece on Sporting News by simply saying "S.O.R.R.Y".
"What else can I say, Warriors fans? I apologise.
"On April 3, I launched a heavy attack on the New Zealand Warriors' desire, history and culture.
"It infuriated so many Warriors fans I actually received death threats from across the Tasman.
"Even members of the club's coaching staff questioned me."
Ritchie said the club was playing quality rugby league this year.
"Coach Steve Kearney has stayed calm and composed this year. He may have finally unlocked the enigmatic Warriors.
"New Zealand lift when playing strong sides and I cannot totally dismiss them when discussing possible premiers.
"They have size, creativity and a wonderful spine... They are off to the finals and good luck to them.
"We all make mistakes."
The Warriors have a chance to finish as high as fifth place on the standings after this week's final round of NRL action should they beat the Raiders at Mount Smart Stadium on Friday night.
The game, which kicks off at 8pm, will be veteran Simon Mannering's 300th for the club.
