A Dunedin teen says it was a huge shock to be told a limited edition lipstick range had been named after her during a visit to a Melbourne makeup factory.

Like many her age, Rachael Cox loves a bit of lippy, TVNZ1's Seven Sharp reports.

But unlike most teens she lives with cystic fibrosis, a life threatening illness that damages the lungs and digestive system.

"The condition can really get you down," Rachael said.

So makeup has become an escape for her, and her one wish was an all-access pass into a makeup factory to see how the stuff is made.

Rachael got her wish, and more, courtesy of the Make A Wish Foundation.

Seven Sharp followed her special trip across the Tasman to visit Karen Murrell’s natural lipstick production facility in Melbourne.

At the factory, Rachael tried on a new "Rachael" lipstick, declaring it "such a nice colour, it's beautiful".

What she didn't realise was it had been made just for her and she was the first to see it before it was to be released.

"I didn't realise it was going to be an actual product. I thought I was just going to have one for myself. So it was a huge shock. I cried a little bit," Rachael said.

All proceeds from the special lipstick go to cystic fibrosis and Make a Wish New Zealand.

"Money from this will help people, and that is just so special to me," Rachael said.

The lipstick is in packaging that carries a picture of Rachael and her favourite flowers, orchids.
