Waikato hunter airlifted to hospital after shooting himself in the leg

A Waikato man is recovering in hospital after he accidentally shot himself in the leg while hunting in bush near Mangatawhiri.

An Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter was sent about 2pm yesterday to assist the man, in his 20s.

The man reportedly suffered "serious damage" to his leg and he was winched aboard the rescue helicopter before being flown to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.
